Scurry

Creative Director/Character Artist at AppRoach Studios

Team size: 8
Production time: 4 months

Scurry is a mobile action runner game where players must guide a hungry roach through a messy house, collecting crumbs and avoiding hazards along the way.

I came up with the original concept for Scurry, which was voted upon to be created by my team. I created many of the 3D environmental and prop assets that bring the world to life. I also modeled and animated characters within the game and made illustrations and button icons for the menus.

This is my first exploration into casual games. I have gotten to know the keys to what makes a mobile game attention-grabbing and fun, as well as how to alter my design strategies to optimize the gaming experience for smart phones. I also greatly improved my knowledge of rigging and animation in Maya while working on this game.

Character Modeling and Animation

I modeled several assets to decorate the levels, as well as modeled, rigged, and animated characters. For Scurry, we employed a low-poly cartoon style.

Character Animation

I modeled and animated the main character Scout. He is a tiny roach that constantly runs, trying not to get hit by obstacles. His model is 930 polygons in total.

The King of Trash is a non-player character introduced at the start of the game. I created his royal design and animated him waving to the player. His model consists of 850 polygons.

Inside the house, the player encounters creepy huntsman spiders with a thirst for blood. I made their legs creep and fangs bite as they chase after Scout. This model has 932 polygons.

The Evil King - Scurry DLC

In the DLC for Scurry, the player encounters a boss fight involving a mutated and evil King of Trash. I adjusted the original model to an upright position, rigged it, and animated the King flapping his wings and waving his scepter of doom.

Digital Paintings

I also made several illustrations for both the user interface and marketing of Scurry.
