Quinn - Character Sculpture
For this personal project, I practiced using Adobe Substance Painter to create interesting textures and materials for a character sculpture. I also improved my sculpting in ZBrush along the way.

Process
Here is my creative process step by step. Click the right arrow to move to the next slide.

Zspheres
I first used ZSpheres to determine the pose I liked best.

Blocking
From there, I began blocking out each body part with separate subtools.

Final Image
I rendered the final image within Substance Painter.

Hair Alpha
To create Quinn's messy hair look, I designed a jagged-shaped alpha mask using Paint Tool Sai. I imported it into ZBrush and then applied it using the Curve Alphas tool.

Final Thoughts

I love designing characters and coming up with stories for them. This character is from a story two friends and I wrote at the beginning of high school. While coming up with a character idea for a previous class’s assignment, I was inspired by this old story and decided to reimagine this character in a new medium.
Taking this character from 2D drawings to a 3D space has been a very fun experience in both sculpting and character design. It has pushed me to focus more on proportions from angles I never studied in my 2D renditions, as well as bring the character to life through the finer details of material painting with Substance Painter.
